San Francisco-based saxophonist Kasey Knudsen led her sextet in creating spacious and evocative compositions. Each piece wove improvisation into melodic and rhythmic themes that developed into imaginative new directions. Alexa Peters at Paste magazine called Knudsen one of ten women who were redefining jazz, adding that “along with playing cascading, virtuosic solos, Knudsen experiments with sound design and effects, transforming the jazz listening experience.” In addition to leading her own projects, Knudsen had also collaborated with artists including Tune-Yards, Fred Frith, Charlie Hunter, and more.
