A linchpin of the Los Angeles creative music community, trumpeter Dan Rosenboom creates finely wrought music that embraces wide-open improvisation, taught grooves, and thrilling ensemble interplay. As a composer, producer, bandleader, and founder of the label Orenda Records, Rosenboom has brought scores of new recordings into the world and helped catalyze a vibrant local music scene. Last year’s release by his Polarity Quintet was hailed as “a jewel of intensely played music and interactive creativity performed with openness and edginess” (JazzTrail), and was one of DownBeat’s “Best of 2023” releases.

JazzPOP celebrates its 17th season this summer, inviting luminaries of West Coast jazz and creative improvised music to the Hammer courtyard for three concerts in August. The 2024 edition features quintets led by three innovative California bandleaders who explore a vast terrain in their dynamic, adventurous music.
