Artist Willie Birch, whose work Johnny Makes the Nightly News (1988) is on view in the Hammer’s Together in Time exhibition, shares insights into his expansive practice. Birch is renowned for his depictions of his community in New Orleans, Louisiana which capture its rich cultural history. After a presentation of his work, Birch will be joined onstage by Hammer curator Aram Moshayedi for a conversation about Mr. Birch’s work in relation to the Hammer’s contemporary collection.
