Artist Diedrick Brackens, whose work bitter attendance, drown jubilee (2018) is on view in the Hammer’s Together in Time exhibition, shares insights into his textile based practice. Brackens is renowned for his attention to the material and contextual impact of his work. Weaving together a patchwork of American history, Brackens’ work explores identity in the past, present, and future. After a presentation of his work, Brackens is joined onstage by curator Erin Christovale for a conversation about Brackens’ work in relation to the Hammer’s contemporary collection and what’s next for the artist.
