No Humans Involved: Eddie Aparicio

Dec 16, 2021

"My biggest collaborator is the material itself," says artist Eddie Aparicio, whose work Sepultura de Semillas /Sepulchre of Seeds (2021) was on view at UCLA’s Hammer Museum in the exhibition No Humans Involved, October 10, 2021-January 9, 2022.

The sculpture is a solid amber monolith encasing objects and ephemera gathered from Salvadoran communities throughout Los Angeles. Over the run of the exhibition, the amber transforms itself with heat and gravity, exposing the objects and ephemera encased within it. "I love the idea that the piece moves because I think that's how memory works also—memory is never fixed," explains Aparicio.
