John Hollander has published numerous poetry volumes and books of criticism, including The Work of Poetry and The Gazer's Spirit: Poems Speaking to Silent Works of Art. He has also edited or co-edited many collections, including American Poetry: The Nineteenth Century and The Oxford Anthology of English Literature. He is the Sterling Professor Emeritus of English at Yale University.
